Conditioning & Fitness (PHE443)

Prerequisite: None

Length:  Semester

This one semester course is designed to be a structured environment for students to improve their cardiovascular and muscular fitness. We will be in the weight room two to three days a week and then be in the gym for cardiovascular activity two to three days a week on a rotating basis. Topics covered will include safety, proper technique, form and periodization to maximize fitness. Students will put into practice their personal workout regimen from the instruction. Students will need to demonstrate personal goal setting, fitness testing and weightlifting technique by the conclusion of the class.  Students will also have a small research paper on various aspects of physical education to enhance their understanding.

Students will explore a number of different age appropriate topics. Topics covered will include: mental health, drugs and alcohol, human anatomy & body systems, disease prevention, stress management, fitness, nutrition, first aid/CPR. Students will be assessed based on reading, lecture, presentations and other projects within the discipline.

 Walking 101 (PHE466)

Prerequisite: None  

Length:  Semester

In this course students will walk everyday both inside and outside, depending on the weather.  They will journal their thoughts and record what they do.  A record of body weight will be tracked every other week.  Instruction will also be given on proper nutrition and exercise for life.

 Advanced Athletic Conditioning (PHE446)

Prerequisite: 11 - 12   

Length:  Semester/100 minutes
Credit: 1.0
In this course students will be trained in all aspects of athletic conditioning at a high level. Activities will include weight lifting, plyometrics, agility training, sprint technique and more. Nutritional Education will be a vital part of instruction too.

 Team Sports (PHE000)

Prerequisite: 11 - 12

In this course students will learn the basics of PE and play a variety of team sports such as: basketball, volleyball, softball and football. Sportsmanship will be emphasized along with teamwork.
