NOTES: The mission of Family & Consumer Sciences Education is to prepare individuals to be competent, confident and caring in managing their personal, family, and career lives. Family & Consumer Sciences programs are active, relevant and diverse. They focus on improving the quality of life for individuals and families; they provide education and training for related careers. The potential for satisfaction in life is increased when individuals are able to manage their resources, maintain health and relationships and assume responsible leadership both in the home and the community. |

Make decisions that designers make every day. Learn about color, furnishings and floor plans to help you in your design choices Use knowledge of elements and principles of design to complete projects in class and at home. Career choice and applications explored. Students will demonstrate the elements and principles of design through career and home application projects related to interior design. |
Explore the world of fashion in this introductory level class. Fashion trends, design styles and the history of fashion affect what is currently “in style”. This course will cover concepts such as fashion & design, clothing construction, textiles, and careers in the fashion and clothing industry. Learn about color, design and create several projects. This class is project based and students will be required to complete individual sewing projects. |
Explore prenatal development; theories of development and brain research. Examine and compare guidance techniques. Develop awareness of resources for parents and children. Explore careers involving children. Observe infants and plan activities for and with toddlers and preschoolers. NOTE: Two college credits are available through Tech Prep. Students will demonstrate learning through projects and activities with children at home and at school. Tech Prep
Credit is available upon completion of both Child Development and Senior

Tech Prep College Credit Available This class will teach students not just how to access the Internet but how to use this immense resource as a tool. Searching efficiently, search engines, web page creation using Front Page and Dreamweaver, graphic enhancement using Fireworks and FLASH, in addition to html programming are some of the software programs this course will cover. This course does an excellent job of generating skilled computer users. Learning will be assessed in a variety of methods: comparison grading to scoring rubrics, project based learning, demonstration of ability to apply knowledge of skills learned, teacher observations/evaluations, peer evaluations, and self assessments. |
This course is a must for the student interested in a business career and for the student interested in learning his or her rights and responsibilities. Students will learn about ethics, morals, contracts, torts, liabilities, and even visit a courtroom. The information covered in this class is the type of data all informed consumers should be aware of. Learning will be assessed in a variety of methods: comparisons to scoring rubrics and models, traditional tests, demonstrations of ability to apply knowledge, project based learning, teacher observations/evaluations, and peer evaluations. |
Tech Prep College Credit Available Students learn to use the Microsoft Office Suite which includes: Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. In addition to manipulating data in existing files, students will learn how to create business applications for various problems from simple to complex layouts producing their own printed documents. MOS Certification Preparatory Tests available. It is a helpful course for students planning to enroll in Accounting, Journalism, Math and Science. |

Boeing, Microsoft, McDonald’s and Pepsi: all are household names thanks to marketing. This introductory course to the exciting field of marketing provides students the opportunity to learn why some companies are successful and others fail. The course looks at business ownership and the role marketing plays in our free enterprise system. Students learn about marketing the most important product they will ever sell, themselves. Writing effective resumes, cover letters, and job interview techniques are covered along with personal selling and advertising. |
What
are the characteristics of a great business leader? In this course students
are provided the opportunity to look at business leaders, their companies,
and review their accomplishments. Students will study leadership styles.
In depth looks at various aspects of American industry and services
are provided. Students will develop leadership and communication skills
through various DECA activities, and have an opportunity to work on
a variety of leadership projects for school, the community, and business.

Tech Prep College Credit Available How will you manage in the real world after high school? Senior Experience is a course that prepares you to manage socially, think strategically, and live independently in personal, workplace and college settings. Topics covered in this course include career planning, job acquisitions skills, financial literacy, decision making strategies, conflict management, crisis management, and personal relationships. This course is a district graduation requirement for all students. Tech-Prep credit is available upon completion of this course and Child Development with a "B" or better. Students
will demonstrate learning through tests, authentic assessments and projects.
Projects are district anchor tasks.
