For Signing One’s Own Attendance Notes
The legal status of an 18 year old is still not altogether clear in the State of Washington. It appears that, in regard to school matters, parent’s rights transfer to a student at age 18, or upon attendance in post high school education. But a parent may retain rights if a student continues in the dependent status. This means that the parent is claiming the student as a deduction on the parent’s income tax return and therefore may still have access to the student’s records.
If parents choose to transfer attendance responsibilities to an 18 year old, even though he/she may be a dependent, then the following form will be required to do so.
The student will:
Act as a prudent adult would in scheduling absences from school.
Check out through the attendance office, PRIOR TO LEAVING CAMPUS, when an early dismissal is needed. Submit a written note, including name, date, time of departure, and the nature of the early dismissal. An appointment card is required for all doctor and dental related appointments. Written notes, after the fact, cannot be excused.
Submit a written note within 48 hours explaining the nature of the all day(s) absence(s).
Expect parents to be notified of absences from school.
Follow the attendance regulations of the Edmonds School District and Mountlake Terrace High School.
