Electives can be chosen from those listed above or in the AOS program of study.  You are strongly encouraged to talk to your counselor about your college plans as early as possible.  Different colleges have different minimum requirements.

Advanced Placement classes not offered in AOS may be taken in other small schools.

Art
Opportunities for art instruction will be made available either within AOS or through another small school.  Four year colleges require 1.0 credit in fine arts.

English Those planning to attend a four year college are required to pass four years of English.
English 9 - Literature and Composition

English 11 - Survey of American Literature from Early American to present

Social Studies The courses range from Geography to US/World History to Current Issues.  Courses are designed to be relevant to current events.

Mathematics All students must take mathematics through geometry.  Four year colleges have a three year math requirement which includes 1st year Algebra, Geometry, and 2nd year Algebra.  All math classes are available to every AOS student.

Science The freshmen and sophomore integrated science courses are designed to help them pass the Science WASL.

Health/Physical Education A variety of active/fun courses will be offered to improve your fitness and wellness.  One of the health classes is part of our required FIST program.

Contemporary Living Grade 12.  Teaches independent life skills.

Culminating Project Students will have the opportunity to do a senior Culminating Experience.  This class will meet District and State requirements.

AOS believes a strong elective program is very important.  Students are able to explore their passions through a wide selection of courses.  If you are planning to go to a four year college talk to your counselor/advisor early about what electives to choose.

Other courses as listed in Art, PE, Advanced Math and Science count as electives when taken beyond the minimum requirements.  Any course taken beyond graduation requirement counts as an elective.  Juniors and seniors may take electives from other small schools on a space-available basis with the overall goal of 75% of courses taken within their small school.
