MTHS Library/Technology Program Goals

 Mission Statement:

            The mission of the Mountlake Terrace Library/Technology is to provide an environment in which all members of our community have the resources and knowledge to become life-long learners and effective users of ideas, information and technology.

  In order to accomplish the media/technology program mission, these goals need to be met:

  Facilities and Resources

v     Library spaces must be flexibly scheduled to allow equal access to resources for all MTHS users.

v     Students and staff will have access to media and technology to support curriculum at an exemplary level (see MTHS Collection Development Plan).

v     Students and staff will have access to computers in significant numbers to positively impact student achievement.

v     Students and staff will have access to and training in a wide range of electronic resources and systems to process, store and communicate ideas and information.

 

Curriculum

v     Library staff will support classroom teachers in all content areas with a special emphasis on information literacy (The Big6) and readers advisory.

v     The librarian works with teachers on instructional design and technology integration of resource based units.

v     Library staff will serve on curriculum committees and take part in curriculum training and evaluation.

 

Staffing

v     The library will have at least one full time Library Media Specialist who is a leader in the buildings instructional technology integration.

v     Students and staff will have the services of library assistants and technical support.

v     All library/tech support staff will have written job descriptions that accurately portray their duties and responsibilities.

v     The district will support the students and staff through access to a full time library coordinator, network manager, and computer technicians.

 

Professional Growth

v     Librarians will attend monthly meetings for planning and in-service.

v     The building will support staff development in the areas of technology and media resources.

v     Librarians will attend at least one professional conference, seminar or workshop each year to keep current on developments in education and media.

v     A wide range of professional resources will be available to all district staff.

v     Building level staff will be regularly surveyed about media and technology in-service needs and the librarian and administration will facilitate needed in-services.

v     Library/technology staff will survey new technologies and introduce them to building staff.

v     All district staff members will be expected to have a minimum level of technology competency.

 

Public Relations and Community Involvement

v     The MTHS community will be informed about the library/technology program through email, newsletters, library website, and in-services.

v     The library/technology program will seek and use district approved corporate sponsored incentive programs.

v     District staff will write appropriate grant proposals for inventive programs.

 

Assessment

v     The impact of the use of media/technology access for students and staff will be assessed regularly.
