  Lynnwood High School has extensive club programs. Our clubs offer an opportunity for learning, involvement and outreach, involving many staff members and students.

Should you have questions regarding our club offerings, requirements, advisors, meeting times, or how to start a new club, you may reach our Activities Coordinator, Ms. Aly Nelson, via her email address or at extension x5247.

Below you will find a list of club offerings available to the Lynnwood High School student body for the current school year:

Curricular & Classroom Based Activities
The following are extracurricular activities that are normally tied to an academic class. Most opportunities in these activities require enrollment in the class. Please contact the advisor listed for other possibilities.

CLASS OFFICERS/ACTIVITIES

Description: Activities/ Fundraising will include pancake breakfast, T-shirt sales, Mr. LHS, etc.

             

Lynnwood Activities Office – Clubs & Activities

BADMINTON CLUB
Advisor(s):  Carol Gittins - Gym
Available to: All students - no experience necessary.
Meetings:      Every Tuesday and Thursday before school from 6:30 – 7 :30 am.
Requirements:  Complete AD-1 and AD-2 packets, purchase an ASB card and follow the Activities Code.
Description:  Learn and practice the game of badminton.  Drills, skills and matches, rules, civility, tournament procedures and manners. You can also play against students from the other high schools in the district.

BOWLING CLUB
Advisor(s):  TBD
Available to: All students – beginners welcome.
Meetings:  Time to be announced. Will meet at Majestic Lanes starting the first week in October through Feb.
Requirements: Purchase an ASB card and pay for bowling.
Description:  Learn and practice bowling.  Co-ed bowling club with top bowlers competing in a High School Bowling League.

CHESS CLUB
Advisor(s): Clint Chan
Available to: All students
Meetings:  Once a month
Requirements: ASB card
Description:  A casual club for lovers of chess or those who want to learn this awesome game.

CLOSE-UP
Advisor(s): Sharon Shaull
Available to:  All 10th, 11th and 12th graders
Meetings: Two to three times before trip
Requirements: Purchase an ASB card and follow the Activities Code.
Description: Study U.S. Government and plan for and attend trip to Washington D.C. with Close-Up groups from high schools around the nation.

DECA
Advisor(s):  Don Ide
Available to:  Any student enrolled in or interested in marketing.
Meetings:  Generally every Wednesday from 2:00 pm - 2:30 pm.
Requirements: Purchase an ASB card, follow the Activities Code and payment of membership dues
Description:  DECA is a professional student marketing organization designed for students who wish to become more involved in marketing beyond taking the class.  The club operates the DECA Student Store.  The business provides students with hands on marketing experiences.  The club also participates in a variety of local, state and national conferences where students may participate in business seminars, competitions and other leadership development.  LHS DECA has also developed an annual marketing field trip to Central Florida and Disney World.  The members have presented this program throughout the US at DECA conferences.

FBLA (FUTURE BUSINESS LEADERS OF AMERICA)
Advisor(s):  Lynn Gibb
Available to: All students interested in pursuing business
Meetings: Thursdays
Requirements:  Purchase an ASB card, follow the Activities Code, payment of membership dues
Description: Students participate in 3 off-site conferences each year.  They will:  attend business workshops, compete in business related competition, interact with adult leaders in business, and create a connection with other future business leaders.

FFA
Advisor(s):  Gary McLaughlin
Available to:   All students.
Meetings: Tuesdays at 2:15
Requirements:  National membership dues
Description: The National FFA Organization is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.

FILM CLUB
Advisor(s): Peter Bonifaci
Available to:   All students
Meetings: Every Wed. after school
Requirements: For 2006-07: purchase an ASB card.
Description: Film club is an opportunity to watch a wide variety of great films and engage in discussion on how films are made and their impact on culture and society.

HI-Q
Advisor(s): Brenda Torres
Available to: All students
Meetings: Every Wed. at 2:10 in room 34 from Oct. - March
Requirements: Purchase an ASB card and follow the Activities Code.
Description: Hi-Q is the regional academic team competition among 24 area schools.  Topics include  American government, science, math, literature, history, current events, sports and Shakespeare.  Practices prepare students for the competition.
INTERHIGH
Advisor(s): Aly Nelson
Available to: All students
Meetings: Monthly meetings with other district schools.  School meetings as needed.
Requirements: Purchase an ASB card and follow the Activities Code.
Description: Students interested in leadership activities involving other area high schools.  Meet with other  students from area schools to exchange ideas to promote school activities.  Interhigh also participates in numerous leadership conferences throughout the area and state.

LINK CREW
Advisor(s):  Ray Carden
Available to: Juniors & Seniors
Meetings: One evening in the Spring, two full days of training in the summer, freshman orientation day and various activities throughout the year.
Requirements: Be nominated by staff in the Spring and selected by application process.  Purchase an ASB card.
Description: Link Crew is a national program that links upperclassmen with incoming freshmen and provides help with their transition from middle school to high school.

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY
Advisor(s): Andrea Coglon
Available to: Students with a 3.4 GPA or above.
Meetings: Two or more times a month during Tutorial Period.
Requirements:  Purchase an ASB card and earn a minimum 3.4 GPA and participate in initiation ceremonies.
Description: NHS is an honor for students who maintain a 3.4 or above.  The club performs community service projects at least once a year, hosts the Spring Initiation Ceremony, sponsors the NHS Outstanding Student Board and assists in the Senior Award Night.  Members are eligible for
Senior Medallions to wear at graduation.

ROYAL IMPACT DANCE TEAM
Advisor(s): Jeana Flynn & Callie Gartner
Available to:  All students, tryouts to select the team.
Meetings:   Mon., Tues. & Wed. 3:10-6:15
Requirements: ASB card
Description:  Competition team where students can build dance technique and experience, strong team atmosphere, leadership opportunities, and community outreach. Travel to competition locations. Tons of fun and hard work! Build lifelong memories.

Robotics Team
Advisor(s): Brad Nelson, Clint Chan
Available to: All students
Meetings: Seasonal according to the competition schedule
Requirements: None
Description: Learn engineering, programming and fabrication skills to build robots for competition.

RUGBY CLUB
Advisor(s):  Jen Tetler
Available to:  All students in the Edmonds School District
Meetings: Starting in January, meet on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:30- 5:00 pm on the field between softball and turf.
Requirements:  Purchase an ASB card, follow the Activities Code and payment of dues. $60 dues for uniform and registration.
Description: Learn, practice and play rugby.  Compete in games against other teams on Sundays.

SCIENCE OLYMPIAD
Advisor(s): TBD
Available to: All students
Meetings: Every Thurs. after school
Requirements: None
Description: Build projects, study science concepts, prepare for regional competition in March. Possibly go on to State or National competitions if successful.

 TATU (TEENS AGAINST TOBACCO USE)
Advisor(s): Lisa Lester
Available to: All students
Meetings: Once a month
Requirements: None at this time.
Description: A program that challenges teens to answer: 1) Why has the tobacco company spent over $100 million in Washington State alone advertising their product? And why is youth their main target? 2) Why is tobacco, the only product on the market used as intended will hurt or kill you, still legal?  3) Why are cigarette ingredients not listed on the pack? 4) How is tobacco the number one cause of preventable death?

United Nations – Multicultural Club
Advisor(s): Jen Pullen
Available to: All students.
Meetings: Two times a month
Requirements: None at this time.
Description:  The purpose of the club is to learn about different cultures, college and scholarship opportunities, and preparing for high stakes tests like the WASL, SAT and ACT.  We will also prepare for job interviews, job applications, guest speakers, and possible field trips.  We welcome students of all ethnic backgrounds and hope to foster greater dialogue and understanding amongst the different cultural groups at Lynnwood High.

ULTIMATE FRISBEE

Available to: All students
Meetings: Once a month
Requirements: ASB card
Description: A very casual team: dues are $3.00.
