CLIP (Contracted Learning for Individual Pacing)
is an independent study program for self-directed
students who are academically able and motivated
to earn a high school diploma. CLIP students and
teachers develop competency-based contracts on an
individual basis for credit in most, but not all
requirements and some electives. CLIP students must
fulfill all LHS graduation requirements to earn
their high school diploma. Enrollment is limited.
Students who are seniors are given priority for
acceptance. The purpose of CLIP is to enable students
to complete course work at an accelerated pace according
to each student’s schedule and learning needs
whenever possible. A student may select to take
CLIP part-time (one class period each day) or full-time
(three class periods each day). Additional learning
experiences outside the classroom (such as work
experience, community-based learning and independent
instruction) may also be recognized for credit.
To receive credit, students must complete all work
at 70% or better.
Prerequisite: A reading diagnostic exam
administered by the CLIP teacher is required of
all applying students (this test is offered Fridays
at 7:00 am, during Tutorial). Entry to CLIP is
by application only. Counselor
recommendation is also required for all students.
