As part of our ongoing School Improvement Plan, the Edmonds
School District and the staff at Lynnwood High School has
developed action plans in the areas of math, reading, writing,
community involvement and supportive learning environments.
2004-05 Math Goals
District Improvement Plan: All students will demonstrate
progress toward proficiency in mathematics at or above grade
level standard. All students will demonstrate basic math concepts
and procedures; all students will solve problems that arise
in various contexts and communicate their thinking.
Math Accountability: All students will demonstrate
at least one year’s growth in mathematics during the
course of the 2004-2005 academic year. All students who are
below grade level in math in September 2004 will demonstrate
more than one year’s growth in mathematics.
Indicators for Improvement:
- 1. By Spring 2005, 58.75% of students meeting or exceeding
standard on the WASL with > 5% progress in each minority
group and students of poverty.
- Reduced failure rate in math courses with > 5% progress
in each minority group and students of poverty
- From current 48.75% failure rate to < 36.6% failure
rate in Extended Year Integrated l Math courses.
- From current 16.8% failure rate to < 12.6% failure
rate in Integrated l Math courses.
- From current 15.5% failure rate to 11.6% failure rate
in Integrated ll Math courses.
- Revise and administer pre-and post-course WASL –
like exam to assess efficacy of curriculum and instruction.
- Collaborative design and implementation of open-ended,
authentic lessons based on problem-solving skills, using
UbD principles.
- Collegial meetings to examine instruction, student progress
and scoring of assessments using common rubrics, based
on CFG principles.
- Integration of technology in math instruction.
- Student support via tutorial and math study club.
- Improved parent involvement and communication via study
club volunteers and parent newsletter.
2004-05 Reading Goals
District Improvement Plan Literacy Goals: All students
will demonstrate progress towards proficiency in reading and
writing at or above grade level standard. All students will
read accurately and fluently; all students will understand
what they read across all subject areas and for a variety
of purposes; all students will write clearly and effectively
for a variety of purposes.
Reading Accountability: Spring of 2005 71.2% of the
10th grade students that take the WASL will meet or exceed
standard on the Reading section.
Indicators for Improvement:
- Spring 2005 61.5 % our students will meet or exceed
standards on the WASL.
- More than one years growth in reading of student sub.

- Decrease the gap of WASL results between minority students
and caucasian students
Specific Stragegies:
- Administer and analyze the reading attitudes survey
to grades 9 and 10. Adding another grade each year until
all grades are surveyed.
- Continue to design and implement mini WASL like assessments
focusing on EALRS 2.1, 2.2, 2.3
- Reading incentives and published totals of pages read.
- All staff will implement at least one planned reading
experience per week for their students. One of which will
be observed by a coach administrator, CFG member.
- Request sponsorship and donations of books to build
mini-libraries in every classroom from parents and the
community.
- Implement Read 180 program.
Community Involvement Goals
District Improvement Plan Parent and Community Involvement
Goals: All parents will experience a welcoming school
environment and effective communication from school. The Edmonds
School District will strengthen community partnerships to
support academic achievement.
Specified Stragegies:
- An increased PTSA presence at evening activities.
- Increase in the number of parent volunteers in a variety
of aspects of school activities.
- All teachers will incorporate technology into parent
communication, i.e. all staff will provide access to grades
via electronic means.
- Implementation of school tech levy resources.
Supportive Learning Environment
Goals
District Improvement Plan Learner Centered Environment
Goals: All students will experience a safe, caring and
encouraging environment. All students will be actively engaged
in learning. All students will develop a positive attitude
and confidence about learning.
Student Support: All students will experience a school
environment in which they feel connected, safe and positive
as members of a school community that values respect and civility.
- A reduction in discipline incidents.
- Students feel a greater bond to school
as measured by an increase in retention rate
and a positive year end survey.
- The learning environment fosters the developmental
assets of all students, as measured by a of
our Healthy Youth survey.
- Increase in membership and involvement of
our PTSA.
- An adult advocate supports each student
- ASB self assessments
- Connections Program – This program
is a shadow mentor attempt where each adult
in the building takes four ninth grade students
to “keep an eye on,” offer advise
and to provide resource connections.
- Increased staff communication to parents
- A cohesively planned series of ASB sponsored
assemblies centered around positive asset
building.
- A “developmental asset” word
of the street activity which focuses on a
different positive value each month of the
school year.
- Commitment from each staff member to implement
a way to enhance assets/values/citizenship

activities extending thru the year.

enforcement of behavior expectations in the
