2008 Technology/Capital Levy Renewal: An Overview
Total of $31.5 million over four years at a rate 28 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value. Collection runs from
2009-2012. This rate is below the current 52 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value.
Technology Component: $24 million
The 2008 Technology/Capital Levy will replace the 2004 Levy that is currently providing the technology and tech
tools in each classroom in the District. Without renewal of this local levy, there are no General Fund dollars
available to replace these tools and equipment as they age and wear out.
Technology for Students (71 percent)
- Replacement cycle for District and Levy equipment;
- Improve students:computers ratio
- Increase number of mobile labs
- Continue Student Tech Tools up to 50 percent of classrooms
- Increase Curricular Tools available to schools.
- Online educational resources
- Support School-Home Connection
- District/School/Classroom websites
- Online access to Student Information
- Online access to grades
- Online resources for student learning
Professional Development and Tech Support (17 percent)
Infrastructure Upgrades: such as electrical needs (8 percent)
Leverage General Funds: Office staff computers (3 percent)
Capital Facilities Component: $7.5 million
Prior to the 2004 levy, schools identified priorities (wish lists) for work they would like see completed at their
sites. Approx. $60 million worth of work remains on the list and the below area identify ways to districtwide address
some major areas of concern identified. No more money was allotted to this component in order to keep within the
parameters of renewal promised to taxpayers, which was to renew at a lower rate.

- Lockdown Capabilities Upgrade

Energy Efficiency ($1.25 million)
- Districtwide Energy monitoring and control
System Upgrades and Asset Protection ($3 million)
