First-Hand STEM Excitement!

First-Hand STEM Excitement
Mountlake Terrace High School’s STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering and Math - students reached out to 4th-6th grade Brier students Nov. 15, helping them get excited about these amazing and advancing fields of study.

Stations were set up in the six classrooms visited, and students - along with teachers and visiting family members - rotated through the classrooms to see all six presentations. MTHS STEM students presented on what they do in the three academic pathways of the STEM program: Aerospace Engineering; Biotechnology Engineering and Computer Science & Engineering, as well as in three associated clubs - Robotics, Rocketry and the Technology Student Association.

Brier students had a writing task to go along with each of the presentations, and a reflection to write on the part they found most interesting of the visit, said Peter Schurke, MTHS Assistant Principal.

Here are a few samples of the elementary students’ responses to the writing prompt, "I think the number one coolest thing from the whole event was ______ because:"

"That every group was showing us awesome stuff! They each had their own talent and that is what they are good at, and they will get better and better!" --Shiloh, 4th grade.

"The high schoolers having the courage to do this, because it takes a lot of guts to talk in front of a lot of people." - -Max, 6th grade.

Congratulations MTHS students for bringing STEM learning excitement to Brier Elementary!
