Instructional materials shall be selected by the professional staff of the school system to assist students in attaining the District's learning standards.

Instructional materials include major course adoptions, individual course material, supplementary/enrichment materials and resources, Internet accessible information, library learning resource materials, and the District's media collection. The selection of instructional materials shall be conducted by District staff and follow established procedures (7250-R1-Procedures for Selection of Instructional Materials). Parents, community members, and staff shall be selected by the superintendent or designee, from the Teaching and Learning Division to participate in adoption committees formed to review and recommend the selection of all major course adoptions.

The District's Student Learning Advisory Council shall serve as the Instructional Materials Committee. The Instructional Materials Committee's role shall be to assure that procedural considerations are met prior to making recommendations to the Board. Membership of the Student Learning Advisory Council shall be representative of district staff and community. The Student Learning Advisory Council shall be chaired by the administrator of the Teaching and Learning Division.

The Board of Directors shall approve or disapprove all major course adoptions recommended for selection. Board approval of a major course adoption replaces all previous adoptions.

Procedures for instructional materials selections and for receiving, considering, and acting upon written complaints regarding instructional materials shall be developed by the superintendent or designee.
