It is the policy of Edmonds School District Board of Directors to provide safe and efficient transportation to and from school for all eligible students residing within the boundaries of the school district pursuant to the district's established Guidelines For Providing Pupil Transportation Services. It is the further intent of the Board of Directors to provide a transportation system for curricular and cocurricular activities during and/or outside of the normal school day, provided that such activities are eligible for district transportation pursuant to the district's established Guidelines for Providing Pupil Transportation Services and budgetary constraints. Students who are deemed by the district to be eligible for transportation service shall receive such service. The district will establish routes and schedules to implement this program. In the event resources become available from the state, the Board will consider amending this policy.

An elementary school student whose residence is further than one radius mile from his/her normal school of assignment shall be eligible for transportation to and from such school.

A middle or high school student whose residence is further than one radius mile from his/her normal school of assignment shall be eligible for transportation to and from such school.

A handicapped student (as defined in RCW 28A.155.020) who is not ambulatory or who is not capable of protecting his/her welfare while walking to and from school will be provided transportation to and from the assigned school.

It is also the policy of the district to provide field and extracurricular trip transportation when possible. This transportation may be on a "user-pay" basis as appropriate for the situation.
