Summer 2007
Contract awarded for new Lynnwood High construction
Logging operations at the site of the long-awaited new Lynnwood High School at 18217 North Road were completed in early May, ahead of schedule, making the site ready for construction.
The District opened construction bids in late April. At the end of May, the construction contract was awarded to the low bidder, Cornerstone General Contractors, Inc. of Redmond, WA. The groundbreaking is planned for mid-June. Construction is expected to last through Summer 2009. The facility will be ready for the start of school in September 2009.
Also in May, the state Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) confirmed matching funds of approximately $15,660,000. Under a separate agreement with OSPI, the state committed an additional $500,000 to fund Lynnwood as a pilot project for their new Washington Sustainable Schools Protocol. WSSP, (aka High Performance School Buildings) is a program that encourages resource conservation and energy efficiency. In addition, Snohomish County PUD granted the project a $300,000 incentive for a design projected to use 50 percent less energy than the same high school built to meet the State’s energy code and to use standard equipment and controls.
