Early schematic designs for new Lynnwood High completed
Early schematic designs for the new Lynnwood High School have been completed. The plans outline the basic shape of the building and its location on the site. Capital Projects Director Ed Peters and representatives from Bassetti Architects presented the designs to the School Board at their August 9, 2005 meeting.
“I like to think of these plans as the rough draft of the first draft,” said Peters. “These plans will be refined and adjusted into a final schematic that will be the foundation for the final design.”
The design calls for the school to be built in a central location on the 40-acre site off North Road, approximately a three-and-a-half mile drive (one mile directly) east of the current Lynnwood High. This location allows easy accessibility to athletic fields and uses the existing forest as a buffer between the school and area residents. The Design Review Committee, which included teachers, administrators, parents, and community members, spearheaded the process and also set other priorities for placement of the building on the site that would provide a strong central place that is maintenance and environmentally friendly.
The building plans have classroom areas built around a central agora, or marketplace, area. The design provides flexibility for a variety of educational and enrichment program offerings at the school.
The district is now scheduling meetings to meet with staff members and neighbors of the site to share the plans and continue to the conversation about the use of the site. Dates for these meetings will be posted on this website as they are available.
