Fall 2006

Preparations begin for construction of new Lynnwood High at North Road site

District voters supported building a new Lynnwood High School on the District’s North Road property, at 18217 North Road, with overwhelming approval for the 2006 Capital Construction Bond in February. Since passage, the District has fine-tuned the plans, obtained land use and environmental approvals, been awarded grants to implement environmental sustainability techniques, and is in the process of securing a building permit. Major construction is slated to begin as early as May 2007. The new building, with the same name and mascot, will open in the fall of 2009.

The work that must be done leading up to the start of construction revolves around preparing the site. Temporary construction fencing will be installed around the site perimeter and wetland buffer areas before the end of 2006. This work is being led by Debra Born, who joined the District during the summer of 2006 as the new Lynnwood High School project manager.

“I’m really pleased to be working with this community on such an important project,” Born said. “Bassetti Architect’s design and complexity of the project is exciting, and that excitement will continue as we see changes unfold at the North Road site.”

Born and other district staff members are organizing an informational “Open House” regarding the new Lynnwood High School from 7-9 p.m. November 15 in the Martha Lake Elementary gymnasium. Interested families, community members, staff, and students can learn more about the timelines, next steps, and current design documents for the school. If you are unable to attend or have further questions, please feel free to contact Debra Born at bornd@edmonds.wednet.edu or call 425-431-7164.
