Dear Tech Point:

Please share with others:

As we approach the due date for the first round of Student Tech Tools (STT) applications, (Sept. 18 - K-8, Oct 27 - HS), I'd like to remind schools how many STT classrooms they should expect over the next 3 years. The table below will show the Target, Minimum, and Maximum number of classrooms for each school. Frequently Asked Questions are posted at the end of this e-mail.

Reminder: These numbers reflect the number of classrooms at each school over the next 3 years.
Target - Number of classrooms to receive STT within the next 3 yearsMin - Minimum number of classrooms your school is expected to receive over the next 3 years

FAQ
How did these numbers get determined?
The focus of these tools are to help close achievement gaps, specifically in the SIP areas. Using the Needs Assessment data provided by Student Services, we used the building Composite score to calculate the target number of classrooms in each building. We then determined a minimum and maximum range for each school. Ranges vary somewhat depending on the Composite Score.

Why do we have to wait so long?
We cannot spend levy funds faster than we collect them. Although the voters passed the Levy in 2004, we are still collecting from that levy. This limits the number of classrooms we can purchase each school year.

What happens to the classrooms that do not receive STTs?
With the 2004 levy, we can afford to provide up to 40% of the classrooms with STT before we run the next levy. It is our intention to complete the STT rollout with the passage of the next levy, so that 100% of our students have access to these important learning tools.

How can I be in a STT classroom?
Applications are being accepted 3 times each year. You may find more detailed information and download the application packet at: http://www.edmonds.wednet.edu/capitallevy/technology/STT/

Kim Mathey
