Welcome Back to a New School Year –

If you are no longer the TechPoint person for your school, please forward this message to whoever is. Also, let me know who that person is, so I can update the distribution list.

We have been busy this summer and are ALMOST complete with the project to install wireless LANs in all of our schools and to replace the hubs/switches in all of the wiring closets. We have a few more schools where we are in the installation phase, and these should be done by the end of the week.

After the installation, we need to do testing & troubleshooting. We will be focusing on getting the wired connections to work first. Once that is done, we will be “tuning” the wireless access points so that there is better coverage throughout your school.

We are getting a lot of questions from people on a couple of issues. It would be very helpful if you could let me know what the answer is to these questions so they don’t get frustrated.

Q. The wireless doesn’t work for me, but it does for someone else in my school.
A. While we have installed the wireless LAN, it still needs to be tested and tuned. We will be getting to this as soon as we can. If someone at the school can compile a list of areas that are reporting problems, it will help us when we get back to your school.

Q. I tried to login, but my password doesn’t work.
A. The first thing to do is to plug directly into a known good wired data port, then try to login. If this fails, please call the Help Desk at est. 7333.
