Principals and Tech Point People,

When developing the Instructional Technology plan, we recognized that every school is unique and has its own site-specific needs for technology. Therefore, we carved out $10/student FTE for buildings to make site based decisions on how to best support the Instructional Technology Levy at their buildings. These funds are being issued during the 2005-06 and 2006-07 school years.

What is the levy already providing?

For details, please visit our website at: http://www.edmonds.wednet.edu/capitallevy/technology/

  • Instructional laptops for teachers  - .4 FTE
  • Computers for secondary counselors
  • Projector and document camera for each instructional space
  • Mobile labs of 15 wireless laptops/school (2 each at four comprehensive high schools)
  • Two digital cameras and one digital camcorder/ school (4 cameras and 2 camcorders  each at four comprehensive high schools)
  • Wireless network throughout building (2005-2006 school year)
  • Servers for student work while at school (After wireless network upgrade)
  • One HP4345MFP (multi-function printer, scanner, copier, fax) in 2005-2006, with more in subsequent years.
  • Additional student tech tools in up to 40% of our classrooms throughout the district (2006-08 school years)
  • Electronic management system for online grading, progress reports, student portfolio and path to graduation/anthology system

How much money will my building receive this year and what is the account code for these funds?

The $10/FTE is based on your Oct. 1st count. A letter was inter-office mailed to you last month. Please contact Kim Mathey if you would like another copy.

Procedure to access allocation

  1. Pull together your Levy Implementation or Learning Team to discuss needs, as they pertain to instruction and curriculum. Identify building needs. Make sure these fit into Qualified Capital Expenses (See above).
  2. Contact Dustin Altshuler for pricing/ordering information and to check for purchasing limitations.
    1. Ext. 7103 or altshulerd@edmonds.wednet.edu
  3. Complete a B-150, B-195, B-3, or warehouse order and send to Cynthia Nelson  You cannot use procurement cards or employee reimbursement to order equipment with levy funds!
  4. Cynthia will check on some consolidation of orders to get volume discounts and let you know if that is possible.

What happens if we don’t spend the allocation by the end of the year?

You may carry over funds to the following year. These funds are NOT subject to the 15% carry-over limitation. You will receive a 2nd allocation of $10 per student FTE next school year (Nov. 2006), which will also carry-over if needed. At some point, we will give you a deadline for spending all funds or losing them. This is to ensure that all money is spent before we run the next tech levy.

May we combine building funds with levy funds to purchase a higher priced item?

Yes, you may combine funds as long as the expense is a qualified capital expense.
