Subject: Mac Levy Laptop Update
Importance: High

 To Mac Levy Laptop Leads:

You have received your Levy iBooks before your school rollouts. Thanks for your willingness to give these computers a ride and share your experiences. Due to your feedback, we continue to enhance the usability of these computers.

Below are some issues/ questions related to the iBooks that may be of interest to you and/or your staff:

1. Login problems.
District servers crashed a little over a week ago.
They are now setup with new software that requires slightly different Mac settings for login.

2. Email problems.
Again, the new servers require a different setting for Mac Mail to work.

Solution to issues 1 and 2.
The Tech Dept. will be contacting you within the next two weeks to come out and make the necessary upgrades to fix these top two problems. The "fix" will take about 10 minutes, so hopefully, you can accommodate their schedule so they can get around as quickly as possible. We know you are relying on these computers for instruction, so we hope to have all your iBooks up and running by Oct. 20th if not sooner.

3. "Funny noise at startup".
The iBooks CD/DVD drive apparently looks for a disk when the machine starts or wakes from sleep. This is usually a little click and whirr sound coming from the right side of the computer. Nothing to worry about. If you think that more may be going on, contact your quad tech or 7333.

4. Sensitive track pad. Yes, it's sensitive.
A slight touch from a
stray thumb can pop the cursor to wherever you started typing.

Solutions: 1) use a mouse and select "ignore track pad input when mouse is present" in the keyboard and mouse preferences panel. 2) In track pad preferences, check "ignore accidental track pad input." If that still doesn't correct the issue, deselect the clicking choice in the "track pad gestures" options.

Please  share this information with others in your building, as appropriate, and let us know if you have more questions, or would like to briefly get together for a "mini-training".
