Levy $$ for schools
Each
school will recieve $10/student FTE from the Instructional Tech Levy during the
2005-06 and the 06-07 school years.
The
Instructional Tech Levy provides valuable instructional tools for the
classrooms, such as Classroom Tech Stations (CTS), mobile cart with 15 wireless
laptops, printers, digital camcorders, and additional student tech tools in up
to 40% of our classrooms. We recognize that each site has a variety of needs
that have not been addressed with this plan. Therefore, we have earmarked some
levy funds for each school to determine what other items would best support
their needs.
This
money should be focused on supporting instructional spaces within the school.
Schools may want to consider additional computers and/or software, digital
cameras or camcorders, speakers for each CTS, and carts or tables for the
CTS. Lori Soderberg will be providing you
with a list of possible suggestions to help your Levy Implementation Teams
create a plan that best supports your school.
District support for schools
So
that we can best support the schools as we continue to implement the levy, Kim
Mathey will be requesting a meeting with each principal sometime between now
and the Middle of August. This will be a time to identify ways in
which the IMD and levy team can best support your school's needs,
including how to provide meaningful principal and teacher staff
development. Principals will receive the levy details for their school and
learn about important resources available to assist in a successful implementation
focused on student learning.
We
have developed a roll-out plan for the Mobile Laptop Carts for next year. These
carts are mobile so they can be a learning tool for students in the
classroom. Each elementary K-8, and middle school will receive one
cart of 15 wireless laptops for student use. Scriber will receive 1 cart, and
the 4 other high schools will receive 2 carts each. Schools may have on-site
training with their carts about a month after their laptop roll-out. If a
school is receiving computers later in the roll-out, they may opt to attend a
training in the fall to receive the cart before the instructional laptop
roll-out. Requirements to receive the cart ahead of the laptop roll-out:
- Building administrator attends training with
teacher(s), including staff member responsible for checking out the cart
to others.
- Building creates a plan to manage the
equipment (presented at training):
- Who will
manage/maintain the cart
- Procedures for
check out and check in of cart
- How staff and
students will be trained to properly use equipment.
Fall training dates will be announced.
Each
school will be receiving a few digital camcorders/cameras next year.
Elementary
principals have expressed a need to have the camcorders early in the school
year to support their work with the Collaborative Literacy Project. Therefore,
we will begin determining which model of digital camcorder and camera to select
so that they can be ordered in September. If you have suggestions of preferred features to consider, please
send those on to Steve Goodwin (goodwins@edmonds.wednet.edu)
