Subject: Levy Update: Phase 1 equipment
Tech Levy Update
Please share with your Levy Implementation Teams...

What equipment comes with this phase of the Levy Implementation?
Phase 1 of the roll out includes:
  • Avervision 300 Document Presenter
  • Hitachi Projector
  • Surge bar
  • Kensington dual lock to lock both pieces of equipment to a table or cart
  • Rubber bumper, as needed, to protect cords that run from instructional station to wall outlet
Furniture is not included in this phase of the levy.
We recommend that teachers use existing tables or desks as a teaching station, or access Surplus to secure furniture. Consider using existing tables, overhead carts, and student desks.

In order to support those classrooms where furniture really needs to be purchased, we will centrally compile a short shopping list of recommended tables and carts, along with vendors and pricing. This will save schools the time and expense of finding appropriate equipment. This information will be posted on our website for easy access.

Why isn't furniture included with this equipment?
TAC examined this issue very carefully and considered the potential needs vs. the cost. After a thoughtful discussion, it was decided that the levy would not provide carts or special tables for the Classroom Tech Station component of the levy for the following reasons:
  • Many classrooms already have some sort of table or cart in front that is used for a teaching station. This surface can hold the new equipment.
  • One size does not fit all - teachers have different needs depending on room size, teaching style, and personal preference. For example, some want to wheel the equipment out of the way when not in use, some want stationary equipment at varying heights.
  • In looking at limited resources, this is not the best use of levy dollars. Furniture will be a bigger issue as we roll out the Student Tech Stations (multiple computers and equipment in 40% of the classrooms for student use). We should save our funds for this phase of the levy.
Hopefully this information will help clarify questions that may arise in your buildings as Phase 1 roll-out begins.
