Building Tech Allocations

When developing the Instructional Technology plan, we recognized that every school is unique and has its own site-specific needs for technology. Therefore, we carved out Levy Allocations for buildings to make site based decisions on how to best support the Instructional Technology Levy at their buildings. These funds are being issued annually on an FTE basis.

This year(2008-2009), each school will receive $5/Student FTE for printers/copiers. We will ask schools to use this money first to address any building issues or needs for printers. Once those needs are met, the school may spend the remaining funds on any qualified capital expense (same rules apply as with the building allocations.) Exact allocation for your building is available through Saundra Smidt in the IMD dept.

More good news - make your $$ stretch farther

We are in the process of compiling a list of recommended tools to help schools make decisions about purchasing. These items will be subsidized by matching funds at the district level, making them more affordable to you. Our hope is that we can help you process the decisions for spending the funds more efficiently, ensure that schools provide tools that are proven to suport student learning, and make these tools more affordable to all. To get you started, printers are on the attached list. As items are added, we will send updates out to you.

Please note that you may still purchase qualified items that are not on this list at non-subsidized prices.

How much money did my building receive and how do I access these funds?
Your building allocation is based on the Oct. 1 student FTE count. Contact Saundra Smidt for the exact amount.

    Procedure to access allocation
    1. Pull together your Levy Implementation or Learning Team to discuss needs, as they pertain to instruction and curriculum. Identify building needs. Make sure these fit into Qualified Capital Expenses (See above).
    2. Contact Saundra Smidt for pricing/ordering information and to check for purchasing limitations at Ext. 7290 or SmidtS@edmonds.wednet.edu
    3. Complete a B-150, B-195, B-3, or warehouse order and send to Cynthia Nelson - You cannot use procurement cards or employee reimbursement to order equipment with levy funds!
    4. Cynthia Nelson will check on some consolidation of orders to get volume discounts and let you know if that is possible.

What happens if we don't spend the allocation by the end of each fiscal year?
While we encourage schools spending levy money in the year it is allocated to support the learning of the students you currently have, Building Levy Funds may be carried forward for up to ONE year maximum. This carry-over will allow schools to combine funds for larger purchases.

May we combine building funds with levy funds to purchase a higher priced item?
Yes, you may combine funds as long as the expense is a qualified capital expense.
