Highly Capable Program - Referral & Testing

The Highly Capable Programs for elementary and middle school students are self-contained full-time District programs located at Terrace Park Elementary and Brier Terrace Middle Schools, respectively. These programs are for students who demonstrate superior intellectual ability, advanced levels of academic achievement and/or display unusual creativity. Assessment for the Highly Capable Program includes tests in cognitive ability, academic achievement and creativity. The Cognitive Abilities Test serves as one tool in the screening process for the program.

A parent, student, staff member, or community member may recommend testing for any student. A referral and parent permission form for testing must be completed by the person referring the student and then signed by the parent in order for the student to be tested. Forms are available at each elementary and middle school, and on the Highly Capable & Gifted Programs website.
