Background Information and Timeline for 2008-09
Most of our community and staff are aware that over the last five years we’ve been having ongoing
discussions about the need to plan ahead for additional operational cost reductions. This need has been
mainly driven by anticipated state funding shortfalls that are impacting Edmonds and all public school
districts across the state. As part of the way we are addressing this situation, the School Board at
its June 3, 2008 meeting approved the following for study and development:
The Board asked that the appropriate subcommittee of our Citizen Planning Committee (CPC) study in the
fall of 2008 and develop plans for possible implementation for the 2009-2010 school year the items
listed below. While school closure and program consolidation as a means of reducing overall costs is
seriously being considered, the direction is to study and develop plans. It remains the Board's
authority to make any final determinations.
