for early entrance. To qualify, children who turn 5 or 6 years of age between:
*September 1 and October 31
must demonstrate above average ability in several assessment areas
(scoring 115 or above in all areas evaluated)
*November 1 and December 31 may be considered
for early entrance on a highly individual basis when exceptional intellectual
ability requires a placement in kindergarten or first grade in order to meet
individual needs (scoring 120 or above in all areas evaluated)

A free district assessment may be given to
families meeting free or reduced lunch eligibility. The free assessments are typically scheduled in early August. Applications
for the free test must be submitted to the address above with proof of
income before July 15, 2017. There may be limited appointments available after July 15.
Once approval for early entrance is received, you may register your child. Your school will not be able to accept your registration until they are notified that your child has successfully passed the evaluation.

complete if you think you qualify for a free district assessment. Only
results submitted on the 2017-2018 testing form will be accepted.The parent must also complete the Early Entrance
Application. The parent will give this application to the psychologist, who
will submit it to the Edmonds School District with the testing results.

receipt of assessment results authorizing conditional early entrance into
kindergarten or first grade. After you receive the notification, you
may go to your home school to register. Early entrance candidates must
register before the first day of school in September.

completion of a 25 school day evaluation period. The school may decide at any
time during this evaluation period if early entrance placement is appropriate
for your child. The child must start school on the first day of school and is expected to attend all days for a full day.
Grade Early Entrance
of first grade early entrance candidates must also sign and return
the First Grade Conditions letter (found in the parent packet).
Additionally, testing may be waived and the student considered for early
entrance into first grade regardless of
the date of birth if s/he successfully completes the kindergarten year
at an accredited private kindergarten, or the teacher has a valid Washington
state teaching certificate. The school must complete and return the First
Grade - Attended Private Kindergarten form also found in the parent packet.
